In February 2025, the AIA invited Beach of Dreams Artistic Director, Ali Pretty, to run a weekend of creative workshops at Dreel Halls for six local groups.
Ali led the community groups through a process to design and create a silk pennant for each group, that celebrates the beauty of the coastal environment where the Dreel Burn meets the sea, records the group’s connection to this coastline and represents the hopes and dreams the groups have for our local area. The groups’ output has been added to the map on the Beach of Dreams website, but you can also view each group’s story, climate commitment and pennant here:

The pennants will form part of a national artwork collection and a UK-wide coastal arts festival.

On the morning of 22nd May 2025, volunteers from our community met the Beach of Dreams team at Castle Street Beach in Anstruther to install over 840 silk pennants from the national collection created for the Beach of Dreams festival. At 4pm that day, representatives from seven local community groups that had designed and created a silk pennant met to share their experiences.
